How Much Do Fencing Lessons Cost in Singapore?
What actually shapes the price of fencing lessons in Singapore, what is included, and how to get an accurate quote for your child or yourself.
“How much does it cost?” is almost always the first question we get, and it is a fair one, closely tied to the broader question of whether fencing is an expensive sport. The honest answer is that fencing lessons do not come with a single sticker price, because what you pay depends on how you want to train. This guide walks through the factors that shape the cost, what is included when you start, and how to get a clear quote for your situation.
Why there is no single price
Fencing is coached very differently depending on age, goals and format. A young child in a small beginner group, an adult training for fitness, and a competitor preparing for tournaments are all doing different programs. Because the coaching time, group size and equipment involved vary, so does the cost. Rather than quote a number that would be wrong for most people, it helps to understand what moves the price up or down.
The main factors that affect cost
A few things make the biggest difference:
- Group class or private coaching. Group classes share a coach across several fencers, so they are the most accessible way to start. Private and semi-private coaching gives you one-on-one attention and progresses faster, which is reflected in the cost.
- Age and program. Our programs are structured for different stages, from the Youth Academy for children to Fencing for Fitness for adults, plus private coaching and school programmes. Each is built and priced around what that group needs.
- How often you train. Training once a week looks very different from training several times a week. Frequency is one of the biggest drivers of total cost.
- Recreational or competitive. Fencing for enjoyment and fitness is lighter on time than a competitive pathway, where more frequent sessions and private coaching are usually needed.
- Equipment. For your first sessions there is nothing to buy. As committed fencers progress, some choose to invest in their own kit, which is a separate and optional consideration.
Group classes versus private coaching
Most people start in a group. It is social, it is a lower commitment, and a good coach can teach fundamentals very effectively in a small group. Private coaching suits fencers who want to progress quickly, iron out specific technique, or prepare for competition. Many of our fencers combine the two: group classes for regular practice and the occasional private lesson to sharpen a weakness.
You never have to buy a single piece of equipment to find out whether you enjoy fencing. The mask, jacket and blade are ready for you at your first session.
What is included when you start
Every session is run by NROC-registered coaches with real competition experience, in a safe and properly supervised environment. For a first session, all the gear you need is provided: mask, jacket and blade. No experience and no purchases are needed to begin. That is deliberate. We would rather you try the sport, enjoy it, and then decide how you want to train, than treat cost as a barrier to starting.
If you are aiming for competition
Fencers on a competitive track naturally invest more, because reaching a podium takes more frequent training and usually a mix of group and private coaching. If that is your goal, or your child’s, it is worth having a direct conversation so we can map out a realistic training rhythm rather than guessing at a package that may not fit.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to buy equipment before starting fencing lessons?
No. All equipment, including the mask, jacket and blade, is provided for your first sessions, so there is nothing to purchase before you decide to continue.
Is group or private fencing coaching cheaper?
Group classes are generally the more accessible option since a coach is shared across several fencers, while private coaching offers one to one attention at a different price point.
Does the cost of fencing lessons depend on age?
Yes. Programmes are structured differently for children, adults and competitive fencers, and pricing reflects the coaching and format each group needs.
How do I get an accurate price for fencing lessons?
The best way is to enquire directly with details of who is fencing, their age and their goals, so a suitable programme and its current pricing can be recommended.
