Fencing for Singapore schools
Bring Olympic fencing onto campus. It builds focus, fitness and the kind of composure that shows up in the exam hall. Set it up as a year-round CCA, an SEP module, or a fresh way to keep students engaged once exams are over. NROC-certified coaches, all equipment provided.
Why fencing for schools?
Fencing teaches students to stay calm when the pressure is on, respect whoever they are facing, and keep going when a bout is slipping away. There is a clear path from a first lesson to the National School Games, and it all happens inside school.
We have helped schools across Singapore start fencing from scratch. We handle the setup, bring certified coaches, sort out the logistics, and back students all the way to the National School Games and beyond.

Character Development
Fencing teaches respect, discipline, resilience, and strategic thinking. Our coaching emphasises values alongside skills.
Building character is part of the coaching, not an extra
Fencing carries the formal code of a martial art inside a combat sport: fencers salute both opponent and referee before and after every bout, and nobody advances a rank without earning it on the piste. Schools recognise the framing straight away, since it is the same kind of discipline a uniformed group such as the National Cadet Corps or scouts builds, just through a sport students actually want to turn up for. Our code of conduct spells out how fencers are expected to behave on and off the piste, so the standards are explicit rather than assumed. See how fencing builds discipline and our fencing etiquette and code of conduct.
Once a student steps onto the piste, they are on their own; there is no teammate to lean on and nobody else to carry the blame, so they learn quickly to hold a lead, fight back from behind, and take a loss with a handshake before the next bout begins. For a CCA or SEP module where character development is something the school is accountable for, that self-regulation happens inside every session rather than being added on afterwards.
How the coaching is structured
Sessions follow a syllabus rather than a term plan pieced together week by week. Every student moves through the same three stages: Foundations, which builds coordination, balance and agility; Fundamentals, split into Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers, where movement, blade control, distance and bout manners all come together; and finally weapon work in whichever of foil, sabre or epee suits them. That structure holds for every student, but how it is taught bends to each one, their build, their temperament and what they actually want out of the sport.
For a school, that means a CCA or SEP module with a defined scope and a visible progression for each student, rather than a block of sessions that is hard to account for afterwards. It also means a student who continues with us outside school carries on from exactly where the school programme left them, instead of starting again.

From schools we have worked with
Fencing Masters was instrumental in setting up our school's fencing CCA. The coaches are professional, organised, and genuinely care about student development. Within the first year, our students competed at inter-school friendlies and one entered the NSG trials. Highly recommended for any school looking to add a unique, character-building sport to their offerings.

Common questions
What age groups can participate?
We work with primary and secondary students. Most CCAs include students aged 7 to 16. SEP programmes are flexible and can be tailored to specific age groups or mixed ability levels. We have experience coaching all ages and can customise the programme for your school.
Do students need any experience or equipment?
No experience needed. We provide all fencing equipment: masks, jackets, gloves, and blades. Students arrive ready to learn. As the CCA grows, students may choose to invest in personal gear, but it is not required to get started.
How long does it take to set up a school programme?
We typically need 2 to 4 weeks to plan, arrange coaching schedules, and set up. We handle all logistics, so you can focus on getting students interested. Most schools can start their first programme within a month of deciding to proceed.
What is the cost for a school CCA?
Pricing depends on frequency (weekly or bi-weekly), group size, and coach experience level. We work with each school's budget and provide transparent quotes. We also discuss funding options and grants that may be available.
Do you support NSG competitions?
Yes. We provide NSG-specific coaching, competition preparation, and strip coaching during the Games themselves. Our coaches have experience preparing students for regional-level competition and can guide your school through the NSG selection and participation process.
What is the time commitment for students?
CCA: typically 2 to 3 hours per week during the school year. SEP: 3 to 5 days of 2 to 3 hour sessions during school breaks. Students interested in NSG competition typically add extra sessions. We are flexible and work with your school's timetable.

School fencing FAQ
Fencing Masters handles the setup end to end, including coaches, equipment and the training schedule, so your school does not need existing fencing knowledge or facilities. We work with your PE department or CCA coordinator to fit the programme into your school's timetable.
Yes, we supply the fencing equipment used in our school programmes, including masks, jackets, gloves and blades. Schools do not need to purchase gear before starting a CCA or SEP module.
Some schools use a fencing CCA or competitive track as part of a student's sporting profile, but whether it applies to Direct School Admission depends on each school's own criteria. We recommend checking directly with your school or MOE on how a CCA is recognised for DSA purposes.
We teach all three fencing weapons, foil, sabre and epee, and can introduce students to each before they settle on one. Founder Jeffrey Lopez and our coaching team have taught all three weapons since 1995.
Our coaches are NROC-registered and certified in first aid and CPR, so they are trained to work safely with school-age students. They also bring competition experience to their coaching.
Yes, many schools begin with a short taster session or workshop to gauge student interest before committing to a full CCA or SEP programme. Enquire with our team and we can arrange this for your school.
